Christine Black developed the concept for this organization after working in the restaurant industry over 25 years. She has also worked in communications following environmental and sustainability issues. Her background includes grassroots organizing, owning a business, and coordinating special events. She has numerous contacts in the restaurant sustainability movement including Elizabeth Meltz who does sustainability for all of Mario Batali’s restaurants. She also has working relationships with WBAI FM/Pacifica Foundation, who is the organization’s fiscal sponsor, and WNYC New York Public Radio where she produced for the Leonard Lopate Show and in the newsroom. Other contacts include Robert Lewis, who started the Greenmarkets in New York City and New York State, and Rebecca Myles who has worked as in development and PR for non-profits.
